A new libel reform symposium chaired by Lord Lester

I’ve been working with Connie St Louis at City University London on a new symposium called ‘Reframing Libel’, which will take place on November 4th 2010 at City’s new Centre for Law, Justice and Journalism.

Connie’s idea is to bring together leading lawyers and journalists  to debate the future of libel reform, as Lord Lester’s bill progresses through Parliament.

Expert speakers from the fields of law and media will present papers on how libel law needs to be reframed, each focusing on different aspects of the issue.

One of the aims is to create a book of working papers, entitled ‘Reframing Libel’, which will be able to influence the government’s bill before it is published in January 2011.

The day will be chaired by Lord Lester and speakers include:

To accompany the event, I’ve set up this site, ReframingLibel.com and Twitter account, @reframinglibel.

Tickets have not yet been released by City University London, but I’ll post details when they are.
